Description

The Kaloud Lotus is a heat management device that sits on top of your hookah bowl and controls how much heat reaches the shisha. It replaces foil. Load coals inside, set the lid, and the Lotus regulates the burn for you. Kaloud invented this category in 2014 and every device like it since has followed their design.

Kaloud makes several models. They all work the same way. What changes is coal capacity, material and how you handle the device while it is hot.

Which Lotus should you buy

  • Lotus I+. The original. Aluminum, two large coals, about 60 minutes. The right starting point for most people.
  • Lotus I+3. Stainless steel base, four large coals, about 90 minutes. For long sessions, big bowls and groups.
  • Lotus II. The successor to the original. Available in stainless steel, which can be preheated.
  • Lotus III. The newest. Built-in rotating handles on the lid and base, so you adjust heat and lift it off a hot bowl without tongs.

If you are buying your first one and smoke alone or in pairs, buy the Lotus I+.

Why heat management works

Shisha does not burn, it vaporizes. Glycerin and flavor compounds release cleanly between roughly 130°C and 220°C (266°F to 428°F). Push past that and the tobacco enters pyrolysis, which is where harshness, scorched notes and the burnt-throat finish come from.

Foil gives you no control over that window. Coals sit directly against it, heat spikes, and the sweet spot lasts a few minutes. A Lotus holds the coals off the shisha and moves heat by convection and radiation instead of direct contact, so the vaporization window stays open for the length of the session.

Three heat settings on every model

Lid off is the lowest heat, used while the bowl comes up or to pull back a bowl that has gone hot. Lid on with vents open is medium, where most of the session lives. Lid on with vents closed is maximum, for dense-cut tobacco, larger bowls or the back half of a long session.

You change setting by rotating the lid. No lifting coals, no tongs, no guesswork.

What bowls work with a Lotus

Standard phunnel and Egyptian-style bowls in the matching size class. Kaloud makes its own Samsaris bowls dimensioned around each Lotus, which is the tightest fit you will get.

Care and handling

Never preheat an aluminum Lotus on a burner. Bring coals up separately and transfer them in. Direct flame damages the device and voids the warranty. Stainless steel models can be preheated.

Let it cool fully before cleaning. Wipe the interior with a dry cloth or a soft brush. No abrasive pads, no harsh solvents.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need foil?
No. A Lotus replaces foil entirely. Pack the bowl, set the Lotus on top, add lit coals.

Which model is best for a beginner?
The Lotus I+. It is the original, it costs the least, and it covers a normal one to two person session.

How many coals does a Lotus take?
Two large coconut cubes on most models. The Lotus I+3 takes four.

Can I preheat it?
Only stainless steel models. Preheating an aluminum Lotus damages it and voids the warranty.

How long does a session last?
About 60 minutes on the Lotus I+, about 90 on the Lotus I+3, depending on cut, pack density and airflow.

Are they all patented?
Yes. Kaloud holds the patent on the design, which is why counterfeits are common and why buying from a contracted dealer matters.

Hookah Junkie is a contracted Kaloud dealer. Every Kaloud Lotus sold here comes directly from Kaloud with the factory warranty intact. Counterfeit Kaloud gear uses unspecified materials, performs badly and carries no warranty. Kaloud’s patent, material claims and warranty apply only to genuine units.
