Description
The Kaloud Lotus II is a heat management device that sits on top of your hookah bowl and controls how much heat reaches the shisha. It replaces foil. Load the coals, set the lid, and it regulates the burn for you.
The Lotus II is the successor to the original Lotus. It runs a deeper coal chamber and a revised vent pattern, which is what stretches sessions well past what the first generation managed.
Three heat settings
- Lid off. Lowest heat. While the bowl comes up, or to pull back a bowl that has gone hot.
- Lid on, vents open. Medium. Where most of the session lives.
- Lid on, vents closed. Maximum. Dense-cut tobacco, larger bowls, the back half of a long session.
You change setting by rotating the lid. No lifting coals, no tongs.
Why heat management works
Shisha does not burn, it vaporizes. Glycerin and flavor compounds release cleanly between roughly 130°C and 220°C (266°F to 428°F). Push past that and the tobacco enters pyrolysis, which is where harshness and the burnt-throat finish come from.
Foil gives you almost no control. Coals sit directly against it, heat spikes, and the good part of the session lasts minutes. The Lotus II holds coals off the shisha and moves heat by convection and radiation, so the vaporization window stays open far longer.
Aluminum or stainless steel
Kaloud produces the Lotus II in both. They perform the same, and the difference is how they behave around heat.
Aluminum heats faster and weighs less, so it responds quickly when you change the vents. It must never be preheated on a burner.
Stainless steel holds heat longer, is more forgiving if you walk away from the bowl, and can be preheated directly. Hookah Junkie stocks the stainless version in five finishes: Argis, Auris, Cyris, Niris and Nubis.
What it fits
Built for standard phunnel and Egyptian-style bowls in its size class. It pairs natively with the Samsaris High-Heat bowls for Lotus II and the Samsaris Lapis II ceramic, both dimensioned around it.
Lotus II or Lotus III
The Lotus III adds built-in rotating handles on the lid and the base, so you can adjust heat and lift the device off a hot bowl without tongs. Heat control works the same way on both. Take the III if handling matters to you, the II if it does not.
Care and handling
Let it cool fully before cleaning. Wipe the interior with a dry cloth or a soft brush. No abrasive pads, no harsh solvents, especially on colored finishes.
Aluminum models must never be preheated on a burner. Bring coals up separately and transfer them in. Stainless models can be preheated.
Frequently asked questions
Do I still need foil?
No. The Lotus II replaces foil entirely. Pack the bowl, set the Lotus on top, add lit coals.
How long does a session last?
Considerably longer than foil. Kaloud quotes up to 90 minutes for the stainless steel Lotus II, depending on cut, pack density and airflow.
Can I preheat it?
Stainless steel models can be preheated. Aluminum models cannot, and doing so voids the warranty.
What is the difference between the Lotus II and the Lotus III?
The III has built-in rotating handles on the lid and base. The heat management principle is identical.
Which bowls work with it?
Kaloud Samsaris bowls for Lotus II are built to its dimensions. Most standard phunnel and Egyptian bowls in the same class also work.
Does the finish affect performance?
No. All finishes are the same device with the same geometry.
